Four restored WWII-era aircraft will arrive at Augusta Regional Airport on Sept. 26 to provide a day of rides, offering aviation fans an experience of a lifetime. The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia in Peachtree City is adding the historic SBD Dauntless dive bomber for the day, along with its P-51 Mustang and two military trainers, the LT-6 Mosquito and a T-34. The visit is part of the statewide Georgia Barnstorming Tour, with additional stops scheduled for Atlanta, Athens and Gainesville, wrapping up at home in Peachtree City. Rides can be scheduled in advance at www.airbasegeorgia.org.
“Weather caused us to cancel our first planned visit, but we’re delighted to bring these historic aircraft to Augusta,” said Airbase Leader Mark Richards. “This tour is offering amazing experiences to people across the state. It helps fulfill our mission of honoring the Greatest Generation who flew these warbirds, and it helps enable school-age children to connect with the WWII history these planes represent. We also hope this visit to Augusta will encourage more young people to consider careers in aviation.”
