CAF Airbase Georgia Sends Five Vintage Warbirds to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

PEACHTREE CITY, GA. (July 19, 2023) – Five vintage aircraft from Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia are flying cross-country to the annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh Fly-In and Convention in Oshkosh, Wis., July 24-30, 2023. The Airbase fleet includes four aircraft that will be offering rides to the public, and an FG-1D Corsair that will be participating in a special event, the Gathering of Corsairs, in honor of Jesse Brown, Tom Hudner, and the men of VF-32 in Korea. Their story was documented in a feature film, “Devotion”, in 2022. EAA AirVenture expects 12 to 16 Corsairs to fly in for the Gathering.

Airbase Georgia, based in Peachtree City, Ga., and one of the largest units of the CAF, will be flying in with its popular P-51 Mustang, “Red Nose”; its venerable Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless dive bomber; an LT-6 Mosquito and a T-34 Mentor. These four aircraft, offering rides to the public, will be based at Fond du Lac County airport, near the EAA AirVenture site.

“EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Airbase Leader Joel Perkins. “We join with thousands of aviation enthusiasts to celebrate our restored warbirds and offer rides that give people an experience of a lifetime.”
