On Sunday, December 7, 2025, Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia joins the nation in honoring the 2,403 Americans killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day marks the moment that drew the United States into World War II, an event that transformed the course of history and shaped the mission our organization carries forward today.
As a unit of the Commemorative Air Force, Airbase Georgia is dedicated to Educating, Inspiring, and Honoring through the preservation and operation of World War II aircraft. Pearl Harbor remains central to that mission. The aircraft, aircrews, and ordinary Americans who responded after December 7 embody the courage and resilience we strive to preserve and pass on to future generations.
Airbase Georgia stands especially mindful of the role aviation played during the attack. Several Navy aircraft, including SBD Dauntless dive bombers, were present at Pearl Harbor, and SBDs later became iconic for their decisive role at Midway and across the Pacific. Airbase Georgia’s ongoing stewardship of historic WWII aircraft ensures that the legacy of these airmen remains visible and accessible to the public.
A Message from Airbase Leadership
“Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day reminds us why the Commemorative Air Force exists,” said Joel Perkins, Leader of CAF Airbase Georgia. “The attack marked a turning point for our nation, and aircraft like the SBD Dauntless—some already on the field that morning—would go on to help change the course of the war. By preserving and flying WWII aircraft, we honor those who served, educate future generations, and ensure that the stories of 1941 and the sacrifices that followed are never forgotten.”
Honoring the Day Across Georgia
Airbase Georgia and other partners of the Georgia WWII Heritage Trail will mark the day through digital tributes, historical content, and veteran stories shared on social media. The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force will once again host its annual Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Ceremony on December 7 at 2:00 PM. These efforts ensure statewide remembrance and broaden public access to the history of December 7, 1941.
Airbase Georgia remains committed to preserving the memory of Pearl Harbor and honoring the legacy of all who served in World War II. Through education, restoration, and authentic flying history, we continue the mission to keep their stories alive.
