Airbase Georgia Hosts Dedication of Peachtree City Post Office Honoring SFC Shawn McCloskey

Peachtree City, GA (August 29, 2025) – CAF Airbase Georgia hosted the dedication ceremony for the Peachtree City Post Office, newly renamed in honor of Sergeant First Class Shawn P. McCloskey. The event brought together elected officials, postal representatives, family, and the community to remember the life and sacrifice of a local hero.

Former U.S. Representative Drew Ferguson introduced legislation to rename the facility at 151 Highway 74 South as the “SFC Shawn McCloskey Post Office,” which was signed into law on January 4, 2025. The ceremony at Airbase Georgia recognized McCloskey’s journey from his formative years in Peachtree City to his distinguished service as a Green Beret and his ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan on September 16, 2009.

“Airbase Georgia is dedicated to honoring the Greatest Generation and all who serve our country,” said Joel Perkins, Airbase Georgia Leader. “Our members were humble and proud to be a part of this important event. Hosting this ceremony reflects our ongoing commitment to remembering those who gave their lives for freedom while inspiring future generations to understand and appreciate their legacy.”

Hosting the dedication at Airbase Georgia underscores the organization’s mission to educate, honor, and inspire. In addition to restoring and flying one of the largest fleets of WWII aircraft in the Southeast, Airbase Georgia regularly opens its hangar for events that connect history, service, and community.
