Airbase Georgia Kicks-Off Memorial Day Weekend at PDK

PEACHTREE CITY, GA. (May 26, 2025) – Five historic World War II-era aircraft kicked-off Memorial Day Weekend at Dekalb-Peachtree Airport (KPDK) May 24-25 with two days of exhibitions and living history flight experiences. The aviation event help marked the 80th Anniversary of the end of World War II, and 250th Anniversary of the U.S. Navy, Marines and Army.  The program provided the public with opportunities to purchase a flight in a World War II-era aircraft.

The historic aircraft restored and maintained by Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia included a P-51 Mustang, SBD Dauntless dive bomber, LT-6 Mosquito, PT-19A Cornell trainer and a T-34 Mentor.

Airbase Georgia is an all-volunteer organization that has grown to become one of the largest flying museums in the Southeast.  The event at PDK brought to Atlanta the group’s 2025 Georgia Warbird Tour that has so already included stops at Wings and Things Festival and Fly-in in Douglas and Golden Isles Airshow in Brunswick.

“This was an amazing opportunity for aviation history buffs and family members of World War II veterans to experience a unique array of historic aircraft in Atlanta,” said Airbase Georgia Leader Joel Perkins. “DeKalb Peachtree Airport occupies the original site of Naval Air Station Atlanta, which trained Navy and Marine pilots during World War II. This event exemplifies the mission of the CAF, which is to educate, inspire and honor. We are proud to honor the memory of the Greatest Generation by offering rides in our historic aircraft.”
