CAF Airbase Georgia Salutes President Carter’s 100th Birthday with WWII Aircraft Flyover

PEACHTREE CITY, GA., Oct. 2, 2024 – A restored World War II Corsair fighter and a restored Dauntless SBD dive bomber made a special flight over Plains, Ga., on Oct. 1 in honor of President Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday. Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia, based in Peachtree City, Ga., participated in the special birthday observance with its former U.S. Navy aircraft, recognizing President Carter’s Navy service.

The two WWII aircraft shared the sky with four F-18s as part of the aerial salute to former President Carter on his birthday. The celebration in Plains lasted for the entire day, including a concert.

The two aircraft departed Tuesday morning from Airbase Georgia headquarters in Peachtree City, Ga., and parked at Jimmy Carter Regional Airport in Americus for a static display prior to the flyover in Plains.

“We are proud to meet flight requests such as this,” said Airbase Leader Joel Perkins. “In addition to honoring President Carter, we honored the memory of WWII veterans and brought a bit of history into the lives of  those in attendance in Plains.”
