Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia will honor Veterans Day and Women at War during its final Open House of the year on Nov. 10. Women at war includes all World War II military and voluntary women’s organizations and the women of the home front. All activities are free at the Airbase hangar, 1200 Echo Ct., Peachtree City, adjacent to the Atlanta Regional Airport – Falcon Field, from noon to 4 p.m.
Volunteers dressed as Rosie the Riveter and WWII military personnel will add to the 1940s atmosphere. Exhibits and activities will include bomber turrets, a Link trainer, memorabilia for sale, and refreshments from a local food truck. Visitors also may view aircraft undergoing restoration, including a Stearman biplane and a P-47 Thunderbolt.
Also in observance of Veterans Day, Airbase Georgia will fly many of its restored WWII aircraft to the Delta Air Lines Veterans Day event Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at Delta Tech Ops facilities, 1775 M.H. Jackson Service Rd., Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport. The public is invited from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 31, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 1. More than 40 military and civilian aircraft will be on display.
Cullman Regional Airport in Cullman County, Ala., will welcome the Airbase Georgia LT-6 Mosquito on Nov. 2 during the Veterans Day celebration there. The public will be able to purchase rides in this restored WWII trainer.
