Hangar and Museum Closure Resulting from COVID-19

TO: Valued Colonels and Guests
FROM: Jim Buckley, Wing Leader, Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia
DATE: March 12th, 2020
SUBJECT: Hangar Closure resulting from CoVID-19

Over the past few weeks we have seen an increasing number of cases of the CoVID-19 virus in the United States and in Georgia. Last night, President Trump announced new restrictions on travel from Europe. Many professional sports teams are suspending further operations and many events have been canceled. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta has encouraged the cancelation of any large gatherings and for those 60+ in age or with pre- existing conditions to stay home.

While I and the staff do not know what will happen in the future, for the time being we want to ensure the safety of our members, guests, and facility. That is why today I am announcing, effective Friday March 13th, 2020- the Airbase Georgia Hangar will be closed to all personnel until further notice. Current key holders will not have access.

I realize this is troubling for many of you. It is for me as well and I do not take the decision lightly. I feel however, it is better to have a few weeks of inconvenience than the lasting results of catastrophe that may result if we do nothing. During the closure, we intend to hire a cleaning crew to complete a deep sanitation of our whole facility. Please know, we will continue to monitor and follow CDC and Georgia Department of Health guidelines to direct our response. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I look forward to seeing you all back at the facility soon.
