Three iconic World War II Commemorative Air Force (CAF) aircraft will bring history alive May 19-21 at the 2017 Warbirds Over the Beach air show at the Military Aviation Museum, 341 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach, Va. The Minnesota Wing and the Airbase Georgia of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) will bring a B-25, “Miss Mitchell”; a P-51, “Red Nose”; and an SBD-5 Dauntless dive bomber for the enjoyment of aviation fans in the Virginia Beach area. The CAF will offer once-in-a lifetime rides in this trio of beautifully restored WWII warbirds. Airbase Georgia also is planning on displaying a newly restored P-63 Kingcobra and a replica Nakajima B5N “Kate” Japanese torpedo bomber.
“It is an honor to be back in Virginia after two years, and to cooperate with the Military Aviation Museum during their WWII airshow,“ said Jay Bess, Airbase Georgia Leader “The museum’s airplanes will fly in the air show, and our P-51 Mustang, SBD-5 Dauntless and B-25 Mitchell will offer rides to the public. “We are excited to be on tour with Airbase Georgia to help commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. Working together to share the history of the Raiders is an honor” said Amy Lauria Minnesota Wing Public Information Officer. This is part of a five-stop tour to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid over Japan, and it is a rare opportunity for people to ride in three historic WWII aircraft.”
